Technical Name Smart Chitosan Hydrogel with Asynchronous Drug Release for the Treatment of intracerebral hemorrhage stroke
Project Operator National Taiwan University
Project Host 徐善慧
Summary
This functional biomedical hydrogel is suitable for filling brain cavities after hemorrhagic stroke surgery. It demonstrated stable chemical properties, degradability, tissue adaptability, and dual drug loading capabilities. Due to its nanostructure, this hydrogel can encapsulate two different drugs and release them in the subacute and chronic stages of stroke, providing anti-inflammatory and nerve regeneration-promoting drugs respectively, assisting in the synergistic therapeutic effect.
Scientific Breakthrough
The biodegradable chitosan micellar hydrogel based on natural polymers has physical properties consistent with brain tissue. The design of the nanocavities allow it to overcome the hydrophobic drug delivery issue, making it a decomposable dual drug delivery platform with an asynchronous delivery mechanism. This dual-drug hydrogel significantly improved post-traumatic behavior and promoted endogenous nerve regeneration and vascular reconstruction in a rat stroke model.
Industrial Applicability
The new multi-drug delivery hydrogel has wide application value in the treatment of stroke, which can significantly reduce the cost of treatment and effectively improve the quality of patient recovery. The application industries include medical research institutions, biomedical materials industry and pharmaceutical industry, and the market demand is huge. It has huge market potential and future economic benefits.
