Summary
Glass provides users with natural lighting and a modern design style. However, the light cannot be directly adjusted under different weather, temperature, or scenery. In other words, while enjoying the lighting and scenery, users must sacrifice privacy and endure the heat from the light, bringing inconvenience to users.
In this work, a novel multi-functional smart window whose function can be directly selected depends on the user's needs are demonstrated. It successfully combined the developed liquid crystal switching technology that has obtained several patents with the roll to roll fabrication process. After it laminated to the existing glass, the glass can be selected between transparency, privacy protection, window tint, and image display.
Compared to the existing single-function smart window, this novel technology solves the critical problems including "single function" and "glass replacement" in this field, providing humans with a more comfortable, intuitive, and convenient life.
Scientific Breakthrough
The multi-function smart window film can not only control the light dimming but also privacy protection. Compared to the existing smart window, this technology significantly extends the function of smart glass. In addition, this is the first time that the versatile material has been successfully integrated into the film. It significantly accelerates the process of spreading this product to life.
Industrial Applicability
Automotive: The glare and heat can be blocked through the heat insulation. When driving and parking at night, the transparent will provide a field of vision. After leaving the vehicle, you can switch to the blur state to protect privacy.
Construction: The window can be controlled depending on the duration of sunshine, efficiently decreasing the energy consumption.
Transparent display: Image display in transparent glass to meet future life.
