Summary |
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; C22:6) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; C20:5) decompose easily when they are exposed to high temperatures for a long period of time. A new method for highly efficient extraction of EPA/DHA-enriched oil was established. This extraction operates at low temperatures for a short time, preventing the decomposition of EPA and DHA, 94% oil can be extracted from fish processing waste for 2 min at room temperature. This technology provided highly efficient extraction of fish oil, which includes homogenization of fish material with hexane using a high shear homogenizer. This extraction method operated at a low temperature for a short period that preventing n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids decomposition, such as DHA and EPA, and increased the extraction yield of fish oil. |
