Summary
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; C22:6) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; C20:5) decompose easily when they are exposed to high temperatures for a long period of time. A new method for highly efficient extraction of EPA/DHA-enriched oil was established. This extraction operates at low temperatures for a short time, preventing the decomposition of EPA and DHA, 94% oil can be extracted from fish processing waste for 2 min at room temperature. This technology provided highly efficient extraction of fish oil, which includes homogenization of fish material with hexane using a high shear homogenizer. This extraction method operated at a low temperature for a short period that preventing n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids decomposition, such as DHA and EPA, and increased the extraction yield of fish oil.
Scientific Breakthrough
The invention can highly efficient extract the fish oil from fish raw materials at low temperature, it avoid the thermal destruction of polyunsaturated fatty acids such as DHA and EPA at high temperature, and improve the extraction yield of fish oil.
Industrial Applicability
The technology can be applied to the extraction of fish oil rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, and the product can be applied to the oil industry nutrients or health foods.
