Technical Name Multi-channels bioreactor for tissue engineering
Project Operator TUNGHAI UNIVERSITY
Project Host 林其昌
Summary
At present, traditional bioreactors usually provide only one channel with a single culture solution on the same carrier, and therefore can only be used for the growth of a single type cells, the application of which is greatly restricted. One invention patent No. I250207 in Taiwan focuses on the shortcomings of traditional one chamber bioreactor, it provides double-chamber space for two different culture solutions. Although different cells can be cultures on both sides of scaffold between the two chambers. However, different cells can only grow in different positions on the same scaffold, and the difference with actual biological tissues such as liver, kidney, or bone is still too large. Therefore, only our multiple flow channels bioreactor are available to cultivate tissues and organs with larger scale or for actual clinical use.
Scientific Breakthrough
As for tissue engineering, the multi-supply flow environment provides different environments through multiple chambers for tissue growth, so that each supply stream can individual provides such as nutrient transport, gas, growth factors and also metabolites removals, etc. Operating conditions, such as flow rates, pressure, etc., can be performed according to the needs. Multiple flow channels bioreactor are available to cultivate tissues and organs with larger scale or for actual clinical use. The interior chamber can be filled with biomaterials scaffold with different sizes, types and/or structures. According to the needs of research or cultivation, different perfusion fluidics can be easily applied.
Industrial Applicability
The multi-channel device can be used for various scales cell aggregates or tissue culture. Biomaterial scaffolds, cell or tissue regeneration, drug screening, cancer/tumor cell migration, angiogenesis or regeneration, bone tissue or parenchymal cell tissue such as liver or kidney, biomedical and tissue engineering research and related products development.
