Scientific Breakthrough |
"The Tree Said" is a 9-book boxed set with a travel brochure and posters, which introduce 10 noted Sacred Trees (known as Shenmu in Mandarin) in Taiwan. It intends to increase the awareness of the public regarding connecting with nature. The overall design is clean and simple, which would convey the message clearly. According to the survey, 54% of Taiwanese would visit scenic areas or National forest recreation areas when they have a day-off or on their holidays. However, it seems that these places do not attract to young adult. Therefore, though these books, we would like to introduce the stories of Shenmu in Taiwan and encourage young people, aged 25-30 to visit the nature and forget the hustle and bustle.
Various types of media and multi-sensory design are applied to allow the users have a better experience. For example, the delicate Fontenay is used. In addition, we used Paper Tyger (from NEENAH) and washable kraft paper since they are tear, water and grease resistant. In order to create an immersive and fun experience, illustrations, origami and several special gimmicky paper designs are applied. What’s more, the unique scent of Taiwan Cypress could be found in the books. Furthermore, users can listen to an audio guide as they scan the QR code attached.
Paper books are less competitive in the market as audiobook sales have increased in recent years. However, the advantages of printed books could not be ignored. We believe that the printed word would make readers “feel” good in their hands. Moreover, the five-sense design would enrich the reading experience. Hence, we think these books are competitive and would outstand in the publishing industry.
As Shenmu plays a vital role in the natural balance and the economic history of Taiwan, the management of natural resources and reservation are of important. "The Tree Said" could connect the individuals with the nature. Finally, we would like to encourage readers to learn about Shenmu and embrace them. |
