Scientific Breakthrough |
The ion-sensing device, which is comprised of a solid-state ion-selective electrode array and a hardware integrated system, is used for simultaneous detection of multi-ion concentration in blood or perspiration and could be connected with a smart device for data processing and storage. Because of the advantage of simultaneous multi-ion detection, cheap and portability, the device facilitates the healthy management and medical care and could replace expensive equipment and the conventional ion-selective electrode. In this present invention, screen printing or micro fabrication process is used to fabricate the ion-selective electrode array and the chip is suitable for development of flexible devices according to the substrate. The multi-ion sensing chip is comprised of a reference electrode with high potential stability and a working electrode array for multi-ion detection. The working electrode is covered with a solid-state ion-to-electron transducer to reduce the signal drift and make the sensing error within 5%. Besides, the chip surface could be modified with an anti-fouling material which decreases the disturbance of proteins to keep the detection accurate in a living organism-rich condition. Because the chip could be used for multi-ion sensing including potassium ion, sodium ion, chloride ion, calcium ion, magnesium ion, nitrate ion, ammonium ion and pH value, et cetera, the sensing device would be suitable for hydroponics, food safety, aquaculture and academic research. |
