Summary |
With the proposed system, we can provide three-dimensional (3D) virtual reality (VR) broadcasting and storage services by using the proposed centeralized texture and depth packing (CTDP) formats. We design a CTDP packaging middleware, which directly plug-in in Unit3D and Unreal game engines for 3D VR broadcasting services. At the same time, we also proposed a semi-automatic 2D to 3D video conversion system, which can convert the 2D videos to 3D videos quickly and naturally. |
Scientific Breakthrough |
Along with 3D and VR technology prevails, this first ultra-high-quality 3D and VR video broadcasting system, if it is depacked at the user sides, allow the users to watch 3D movies VR games directly in TV channel without changing TV broadcasting equipments. In the past, 3D movies could only be viewed in a movie theater or on a specific screen with a wearable glasses, which were not convenient. The 3D movies in side-by-side formats, when they are transmitted to the existing 2D TV users, the screen will display a double picture with left and right views in half-resolution, which cannot be viewed at all. Through the CTDP technology, the video signals can support different users, which have direct 2D, red and blue 3D, glasses-type 3D or naked-eyes 3D displays. If the viewers use naked-eyes 3D TVs, they do not need any wearing device, they can experience 3D visual effects with naked eyes. With CTDP technology, it will accelerate the development of 3D video games, 3D live videos, 3D entertainment in AR/VR technologies and other creative application services. For hardware system, the technology also drives new 3D format, digital video converter in STB, glasses 3D TV , and naked-eye 3D TV sets. |
