Summary
he contact lens is a medical device for providing appearance and vision correction. However, the contact lens is in contact with cornea directly resulting in deposition of tear proteins, subsequently eye infection and discomfort. Our multifunctional contact lens care solution can effectively remove deposited tear proteins, and can reduce the high friction coefficient. Our care solution will provide comfort, and decrease the possibility of eye infection.
Scientific Breakthrough
We investigated the effects of tear lysozyme deposition on the friction coefficient of contact lens. Friction coefficient was increased to more than 0.01 by lysozyme deposition. However, our multifunctional care solution could reduce friction coefficient to less than 0.006. It indicates that our olution could improve the surface lubricating characteristics of contact lens, without improving materials of contact lens.
Industrial Applicability
Our multifunctional care solution for improving surface lubricating characteristics of contact lens followed the regulation for soft contact lens care products, that was announced by TFDA. Most pre-clinical tests have been conducted and passed. Thus our multifunctional care solution can be applied in contact lens industry, as well as be invested by optical or optoelectronic industry for increasing medical device value in Taiwan.
