Summary |
The innovation of the present technology is to develop a serum-free freezing medium for cell cryopreservation. Comparing with current freezing medium, our serum-free freezing medium showed higher cell recovery rate and lower apoptosis/necrosis ratio after cell thawing. In addition, the concentration of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) commonly used in the freezing medium was reduced to 2.5%. This can reduce the side effect and cytotoxicity, and will be benefit for clinical application. |
Scientific Breakthrough |
The scientific breakthrough of the present invention is to provide a cell freezing medium composition containing no fetal bovine serum, no plasma and low concentration of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The low concentration of the DMSO in the cell freezing medium can reduce the side effect and cytotoxicity, and will be benefit for the thawed cells for clinical application. |
Industrial Applicability |
The technology can be applied to industries related to cell therapy and immunotherapy. In addition to being used for cryopreservation of human hematopoietic stem cells, it can also be used for cryopreservation of various adult stem cells, embryonic stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, various blood cells, plant cells or microorganisms. |
