Summary |
Atemoya is a perishable fruit with highly sensitive to chilling injury, which impedes its long-distance trading. This technology integrated reducing field pathogen infections, improving precooling efficiency, utilizing controlled atmosphere transport technology. We successfully prolonged storage life of atemoya to 3-4 weeks. The pilot tests demonstrated that the fruits have been successfully shipped to Kuala Lumpur, Dubai,Canada. The arrival salability was over 90 with 7 day shelf life. We recommend to apply this technology if atemoya will be transport for more than 10 days. |
Scientific Breakthrough |
Through applying integrated disease management during fieldpostharvest stages to reduce decay ratio to 20-30, enhancing precooling efficiency vis forced-air cooling systemshortening time span by 70, developing low power consumption, easy to carry, low-cost gas monitoring equipment with sufficient measurement range, adapting controlled atmosphere marine container to create a low O2 plus high CO2 to suppress the fruit metabolismethylene production, we successfully overcame the current bottleneck that atemoya cannot be transported for distant market (4 weeks). |
Industrial Applicability |
This technology is recommended to apply if atemoya will be transported for more than 10 days. Several benefits provided by current technology are as follows: postharvest life are up to 3-4 weeks, the arrival salability is more than 90,the shelf life is 5-7 days. Moreover, our pilot tests demonstrated that atemoya was successfully shipped to Kuala Lumpur, Dubai,Canada. The technology had no problem to merge into current packinghouse operation process. The cost-benefit analysis exhibited net benefit of using this technique in atemoyas industry. |
