Summary
The present technique can greatly mitigate the motion-induced ghost artifacts in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images, wherein an automatic image segmentation procedure and a ghost removal algorithm are used to correct images suffering from motion-induced ghost artifacts. In addition, this technique is compatible with MRI image from any system and helps a more precise diagnosis using MRI images.
Scientific Breakthrough
Based on the effect of subject motion on the MRI signal, this technique can automatically correct the motion-induced ghost artifact on MRI images. One of the advantages is that this proposed technique can be applied on any MRI images. It doesn’t matter what kind of brand, model or hardware of MRI system is used to perform the image acquisition. It is compatible with most of the existing advanced image reconstruction techniques, such as parallel imaging, partial k-space reconstruction and etc.
Industrial Applicability
This technique has been implemented as a software module and the performance was also verified using practical MRI images from commercial animal MRI systems. One of the applications is to integrate this technique into the image reconstruction procedures on existing MRI systems for real-time image reconstruction and ghost artifact correction. Another possible application is to design and develop a standalone package which is targeting to the MRI users.
