Summary
The primary human airway epithelial cells were collected from the normal bronchus of lung cancer patients’ lobectomy. After a series of enzymatic digestion, the cells were cultured in a culture dish,transplanted to trans-well when the cells were 90 full. After the cells are full, remove the culture medium in the apical compartmentthe cells will enter the air-liquid interface to start polarizationdifferentiate into ciliated cells, goblet cellsbasal cells. Compared with traditional cell lines, such primary cells can better simulate the real physiological conditions of respiratory epithelial cells.
Scientific Breakthrough
Although the primary human airway epithelial cell technology has been setup for many years, the breakthrough of this study is that we have many different donors’ cells. This can be used to compare the differences of viral infectionimmune response in different donors.
Industrial Applicability
Compared with traditional cell lines, primary human airway epithelial cells can better simulate the real physiological conditions of respiratory epithelial cells. In addition to providing research on viral gene evolution, it can also be used for drugvaccine developmentinnate immune responses study after virus infection.
