Summary |
This technique focuses on enhancement of the survival rate and growth potential of micropropagated strawberry during acclimatization by introducing endophytes. Several methods have been tried to introduce endophytes into micropropagated strawberry for production of high-quality and pathogen-free plants. Furthermore, this technique can also be used to produce plants tolerant to biotic and abiotic stresses. |
Scientific Breakthrough |
Biopesticides and biofertilizers are two major means to apply microorganisms in crop production. However, due to difficulty in fermentation, short shelf-life and easily affected by field conditions, it is not easy to develop a microorganism into a product. This technique can provide similar effects and microorganisms other than spore-forming species can also be considered. |
Industrial Applicability |
The indigenous endophyte resources with ability to enhance strawberry tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses were selected, and used for acclimatization of micropropagated strawberry to accelerate acclimatization procedures and produce disease-free seedlings, which can be an alternative method to reduce the problem caused by latent infection of strawberry anthracnose. |
