Technical Name Development of Novel Therapeutic Drugs for Treatment and Prevention of Opioid Addiction
Project Operator China Medical University
Project Host 謝佳宏
Summary
Our team show SLC7A11 gene coded for system xc- , plays a crucial role in pathophysiology of opioid addiction. The data derived from animal studies, PI initiated clinical trials and big data analysis to show the inhibitors of system xc- are able to prevent and treat opioid addiction. Based on these rationales, we developed the new drugs for preventing and treating of opioid addiction.
Scientific Breakthrough
Our team show that SLC7A11 gene coded for a cystine/glutamate transporter, known as system xc- or xCT, plays a critical role in the pathophysiology of opioid addiction. Our data derived from animal studies, PI initiated clinical trials and big data analysis to show the inhibitors of system xc- are able to prevent and treat opioid addiction.
Industrial Applicability
The products derived from this innovation will be the first-in-class drugs which are high effective at preventing and treating opioid addiction. The user will be the patients with opioid addiction and chronic pain. According to the report, opioid dependence is associated with an annual cost of $ 56 billion in the United States alone and the drugs for opioid addiction in U.S. market is worth at least $ 1.4 billion a year in sales .
